What would happen if I went to the ER with severe menstrual cramps

You heard right. The ER will charge u $1000+ & hand u Motrin & a heating pad. That lucky lady who got a pain shot or Rx is an exception. I was offered neither when I went to the ER for a broken jaw that required stitches, much less for menstrual cramps. Most ER docs r very sketched out about ''junkies'' & ''frequent fliers'' so they will rarely prescribe. Save yourself some money & aggravation. Call ur gyno & explain ur situation. Maybe she will call in some vicodin & will fit u in for an emergency exam. Until then, Motrin & a heating pad work just as well at home (or not.) It sucks, but u might need to ride it out if ur gyno does not call in a script.

I agree u should call ur gynocolgist first, & then if need be, go to the ER. Be sure to explialn to them that it is to early for ur period & that u r in severe pain. If u give them the name of ur regular doctor they may be able to call & consult with him/her. Since ur bleeding heavily & in pain it is possible they will do a pelvic exam and/or an ultrasound to determine if there r any problems/concerns. Depeding on the doctor, they may give u a shot to help with the pain, or write u a prescription for a stronger pain reliever than OTC meds.

They might just give you something like ibuprofen 800's.
Which is the same as just taking four ibuprofen.
Drink hot tea, it is comforting to your tummy and will help soothe the pain a little, or ginger ale.

But you should go see a doctor because if your early and bleeding a lot then there could be a problem.
I wouldnt worry yet though.
Just take a quick trip and get it figured out.

Call your gynecologist. They would be more sympathetic and they would know all of what would help
