l have really bad menstrual pain, from moderate to severe (severe is basically when I am almost fainting from the pain and basically climbing walls). my lower back hurts too and longer. Since ibuprofen, midol works at certain times, l am left in pain more times than l want. l do not wanna overdose and damage my liver. Would it be legitimate to ask for vicodin from your doctor only once a month, even only 2 pills (for the first, worst 2 days that l have)? Thanks to society and drug abusers, I am hesitating to ask but l was thinking that if l explain my symptoms and only ask for the minimal amount of pills once a month, it might help me. l can not use birth control because l gain weight from it and l do not like the possible cardiovascular/heart/stroke side effects. Anyone in the same position, and any luck? Girls (and/or someone in the medical profession) preferred please. Thanks.
To the person who said l should get checked out first before giving me anything like Vicodin, l am not against it. Do not try to assume anything automatically, as for the ''flimsy'' evidence, l would sure like to give a dose of my ''flimsy'' pain to you. l did not expect to get any medication without a check up first anyway.
Also, l know that Vicodin has acetaminophen, it is just that l will take way less of acetaminophen with Vicodin that what I've been doing almost overdosing basically. l know that the combination of the narcotic and acetaminophen helps alot and right away (not like what I've been doing, taking more acetaminophen in the end..)
As for birth control, due to your limited knowledge it seems, you do not know the numerous reasons why a person does not wanna take it. l do not like the serious stroke side effects, strokes are in my family. That is perfectly reasonable. l do not even wanna talk about religious reasons (too many people scoff at the religious views agains Birth control). So l believe l do have a few valid reasons why l wo not take birth control pills, thank you.

vicodin for dysmenorrhea menstrual pain

I am not a doctor, although I am an addictions educator. I am in Canada & we do not have much vicodin here - more often we have oxycontin. It is prescribed often & I have heard of it being prescribed for menstrual cramps. The opioid family of drugs inhibits ur brain is ability to receive pain messages. That is how it makes u feel better. Drugs like ibuprofen reduce inflamation & resolve the pain that way.

A doctor will certainly be willing to help u get some pain free relief, but at the same time I would be asking the doctor to resolve the CAUSES of the pain. Vicodin will just mask the pain, not cure it. And a life on pain management drugs is not fun! What is happening in ur body that is causing ur pain? Do u have fibroids? Is there something that can be resolved with other medications (not the pill) or perhaps surgery? Is there a more permanent solution?

Good luck, & I hope u feel better!

Vicodin almost always contains acetaminophen (which is the stuff that damages ur liver). In fact, most of ur objections do not make much sense. Have u TRIED birth control? Using such strong pain killers will have a lasting effect.

You can try for vicodin.. but I would be more interested in Norco, which is pure vicodin with nothing else added. However, were u to ask, then first u need to explain exactly how bad the pain is.

I'd be wary of giving u pain meds on such flimsy evidence. I'd refer u to an endocrinologist & see what is up. I'd rather cure the problem than treat the symptom.

It is really not as difficult as you think to get a script for Vicodin..

I would definitely bring it up to the doctor and see what he can do. That sounds terrible that you have to go through that much pain. I could not even imagine having worst cramps than I already get.
